Davis Farmland with Nicholas

Every year we try to take Sophia to the places that she loved in the past. I love to watch her eyes light up when she realizes that she has been there before. We have been going to Davis Farmland since the day after Sophia was turned a year old. I find almost magical to watch her interact with the animals and the confidence that she has when she approaches them as if they were old friends. It is almost therapeutic to stand back and remember how she interacted the year before and where she is at that moment. This year instead of making it a family trip, we brought along the Morabito family to join in on the fun. Nicholas and Sophia had a great time together….like they always do! The kids couldn’t wait to get through the gate and as soon as we did there was a giant angora rabbit on a table in front of them. The kids had a blast combing him. On the car ride home Sophia told me that she was the bunny’s hair dresser and she had to do it’s hair. A little later on there was a giant bunny sitting on the lawn with a leash. Nicholas loved that he could sit down and pet it, while Sophia thought it was great that the bunny was on a leash like a dog….and that she could hold the leash. Sophia loved being around the animals. She was hugging them and petting them which I expected her to do but this year she actually fed them. She was in charge of her own animal feed cup and would go right up or in the fence and feed the animals. Even their “mouth yuck” on her hands didn’t bother her one bit. Like previous years her favorite animal was the baby goats but chicken and rabbits were a tie for close second. When she would pet the sleeping baby goats and they would move thier ears it would startle her a little bit but then she would go on petting.

Davis Farmland is where Sophia’s 1st horseback riding experience took place. I remember walking next to the horse so scared she was going to fall off and she did great. This year, she was able to ride alone. She was so proud to be able to walk by me on the horse and wave. She got off and came running yelling, “Mommy I did it, I did it all by myself!” Nicholas followed in his friends footsteps and rode his first horse here too! Dom walked next to him while we all watched and cheered as he rode by. Nicholas was grinning ear to ear the entire time. At the end of the day after lunch we took the kids to the playground area of the farm and they both loved the tractor. It was a great day spent with great friends!
