10 Months

This was an exciting month with holidays, spring days, and a bird in the house. Easter was great for Daddy and me, but Sophia was a little overwhelmed. This is the first holiday that we hosted at our house since she has been old enough to understand faces have their places (as I like to call it.)

Having my mom, Don, my sisters, Adam,Keir, and Nana Betty all in our house at one time threw her off a little. She is used to going to them when they are in a group together not having them come to her.

For the most part she will go to anyone and “ham it up” when she is out of the house, but once you come in to her house, forget it…unless, of course, you are Dom or Auntie Adrienne!

We have been spending a lot of time outside playing and taking walks. With it getting darker later we have been able to wait until Daddy gets home to go for walk and play outside. Sophia loves waiting for Daddy. Once she is done eating dinner she will walk over the glass door in the kitchen and wait there until Daddy pulls his truck in. She just keeps repeating, “Dada…Hi, Dada” while she waits. It is really cute. Now they have a routine where Daddy will wave when he is still in the truck and she will wave back. Then he sneaks around my car so she can’t see him and then pops in front of the door and taps the glass. She hits the glass back. He opens the door and she climbs into his arms. I love to sit back and watch the bond they have…it is so special.

Our most exciting even this month was the bird that ended up in my kitchen last weekend. Daddy spent most of the weekend trying to get it to leave the attic and Sophia and I would watch from the car as he did this.

If you know Daddy you know events like this bring us to emergency rooms. So Sophia and I planned ahead. We also didn’t want to be in the house in case it ended up there. Well, to make a long story short, no emergency room and the bird did get into our kitchen without me knowing and... well greeted me.
It is funny how you change once you are a mother. Normally, I would have let the dirty creature out door and sterilized the kitchen. This time I saw him…screamed…and then ran to make sure the bird didn’t fly into the room Sophia was in. Mike was the hero who let this bird out. Sophia thought I was nuts and was a little mad that I was disrupting her playtime.

Developmentally Sophia is doing awesome! This month her strides were her social and verbal skills. She has begun using her signs for want, no, finished, eat, and outside consistently. It is funny how she has begun to make up her own signs when she is trying to tell us something. We have found her frustration level has dropped because she is now able to communicate with us. Of course she still has her fits when we say, “no” but she is getting easier to re-direct. She has been doing a lot of baby babble. She will copy what we do and say. For example, she has her own photo album with pictures of people in it. Every night she will bring it to me and we go through it and say hi to everyone in the book. Then on the way to school she will copy what we do. All I hear from the back seat is, “Hi, nana….Hi, Don….Hi Baby…Hi Daddy…Hi (baby babble). It is so funny. She also sings along with songs and can now say “here, there, and no.”

Socially, she is a little ham. She has become a little clingy, but nothing like she could be at this age. She knows her comfort level. Mike and I see a little of both of us in her. She is outgoing, friendly, and loves to be the center of attention when she is comfortable in her surroundings…like me. But, when she is uncomfortable in a situation she will move herself away from it and play alone and watch the activity happen around her…like Daddy. When she is truly scared is the only time she will seek one of us out to comfort her.

Medically, there is not much to say. She is doing AMAZING on this new diet. No rashes…from food anyway. She had her check-up with the GI specialist. We are going to keep her on a casein free diet until age 2 and a Gluten/rice free diet until at least 18 -24 months. She is doing so well that she doesn’t need to go back until 16 months. YAH! Wow! 11 months is here! Mike and I keep reflecting back to this time last year. I now understand what people mean when they say they grow up fast. They really do! Well the next time I write our baby will be a year old! Until then enjoy the weather and have a great month!
