Sophia's "Big Girl" Bike

Last May, Mike and I decide that we would purchase Sophia her first “Big Girl” bike as a birthday present. So we took her to Toys ‘R’Us to pick out a bike. She could have cared less about a new bike and ended up leaving with a dollhouse. All summer she rode her tricycle and never mentioned a new bike…even when her knees began hitting the handlebars.
When she went back to school, she got into this pattern of wanting to be called a “big girl” and she would tell us she is not a baby anymore. Driving down our street one afternoon she saw some of the big kids outside riding their bikes. She screamed from the back of the car that she wanted a big girl bike and that she didn’t want to ride her baby bike anymore. After over an hour of her talking about a big girl bike and her riding everyone else’s bike on the street we brought her to get a bike at Toy’R’Us.

When we got home Mike could not have set it up faster enough for her. She helped him because she thought it would get done faster.

At almost 7:30pm the bike was finally together and Sophia was on it. At first she would peddle forwards, get confused and peddle backwards…slamming on the breaks.
After about 10 minutes she got the hang of it and was riding up and down the street like a pro.

She was so excited about her bike that she rode it 6:00am the next morning before school. Now Mike and Sophia go on rides around the neighborhood and to the park down the street.

She is right. She is not a baby anymore….She is my big girl!
