First Time on a Boat

During our trip up north to Nana and Don's camp we finally got a chance to ride in their boat on Newfound Lake. This was Sophia's first time in a boat and my first time on Newfound Lake since I was around Sophia's age.
I was hesitant last year to bring her on the boat because she was so little and fearless. Those facts paired with ear tubes and deep water just didn't sit well with me. This year, though she still has one tube, I gave in and let her go. I am glad that I did because she LOVED it!
She was so excited to go that she had her life jacket on at the camp. We had to pry her out of it in order together into her carseat for the ride to the dock. Once there we was quick to put it back on!

Captain Don driving us to the sandbar for swimming.

During our adventure Don took out his binoculars to look at something across the lake. Sophia couldn't wait to use them. She sat on Nana Deb's lap and just took in the scenery though the binoculars.

Don had promised he would let her drive so once she was out in the open area of the lake she was able to take the wheel (with Don VERY close by!)

She was very funny to watch because she copied the way she say him driving occasionally looking through the binoculars.
There is a sandbar that all the local boaters know about. Don thought that would be the best place to take Sophia to swim since we (Nana, Don and me) could all stand up. He was right. Because we were standing in the water Sophia cautiously jumped to Don and stayed with him much of the time. As she got more comfortable with the water she began practicing her swimming but would keep finding her way back to him.
